“Click to” – fast entry and organisation

Cucumbar’s “Click to” feature dramatically speeds up how you add, move, select, and group events in timeline view. This technique is twice as fast as standard entry and is done all in the same window.

Add an event ¶

The “Click to” feature lets you define the start and end dates of a new event just by clicking/tapping the calendar.

Click on the desired start date at the top of the calendar.
To add a single-day event: Click the same date again.
To add a date range: Click a second date.
The new event form will automatically open, showing the dates you just clicked.

Select multiple events ¶

The “Click to” feature is also used for selection, allowing for bulk actions.

Select an event by clicking on its left-hand marker.
Select additional events by clicking their left-hand markers.
Deselect an event by clicking its selected marker again.
Pressing Esc on your keyboard will deselect all events.

Once selected, you can move, delete, or add the events to a group or swimlane.

Move multiple events ¶

Select the events you wish to move using the left-hand marker technique explained above.
Click on the new start date for the events.
The entire block of selected events will move together, maintaining their original relative spacing.

Resize events ¶

This method only allows resizing of one event at a time.

Click on the event’s right-hand marker.
Click on the new end date.
The event will stretch to cover the new duration.

Groups allow you to organise related events under a single title, making them easier to manage and tidy away. See more here.

Creating and populating a group

Create a new event or edit an existing one, and give it a Group title in the event form. This event is referred to as the Anchor event.
Click “Save.” This event is initially a group of one.
Select other events you want to include using the left-hand selection marker technique.
Click the Group title of the Anchor event to instantly add the selected events to that group.

Events can also be added to a swimlane using the same technique.

Keyboard bulk actions ¶

With multiple events selected you can press delete to delete the selected events. Using these other keyboard shortcuts you can also:

Change appearance
Update groups and swimlane titles
Add tags
